Description

Golden, flaky crescent rolls filled with spiced apples and lemon zest, finished with a tangy cream cheese glaze for a bright and bold brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (13.6 oz / 385g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium Golden Delicious apple, peeled and diced
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2–3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
  • Extra squeeze of lemon juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Remove crescent roll dough from the fridge and let it sit for 5 minutes to make it easier to unroll.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine diced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and lemon juice. Toss to coat.
  4. Add fresh lemon zest to the apple mixture and mix again. Set aside.
  5. Unroll the crescent dough onto the prepared baking sheet and separate along perforations. Pinch any holes together.
  6. Place a spoonful of the apple mixture near the wide end of each triangle.
  7. Roll the dough tightly from the wide end to the point, curving slightly to form a crescent shape.
  8. Place rolls seam-side down on the baking sheet, leaving 1 inch between each roll.
  9. Brush the tops and sides of the rolls generously with melted unsalted butter.
  10. Bake for 15-18 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  11. While rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, milk, and lemon juice until smooth.
  12. Remove rolls from oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
  13. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to ensure flakiness. Dice apples uniformly for even cooking. Do not glaze hot rolls as the glaze will melt. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free puff pastry or crescent dough. For dairy-free, use plant-based butter and cream cheese.
