Description
Soft, pillowy Hawaiian sweet rolls filled with a tangy cream cheese swirl and bright cherry pie filling, topped with a sweet glaze. This quick and easy brunch recipe is a crowd-pleaser that feels upscale but requires minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (8-12 rolls) Hawaiian sweet rolls
- 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar, divided
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 21-ounce can cherry pie filling
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or lemon juice (for glaze)
- Optional: Lemon or orange zest
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls into quarters to create bite-sized squares and arrange them in a single layer in the baking dish, leaving small gaps between pieces.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup of powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Place a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each roll square.
- Spoon about a tablespoon of cherry pie filling on top of the cream cheese on each square.
- Drizzle or brush the melted butter evenly over all the rolls.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- While baking, whisk the remaining powdered sugar with milk or lemon juice to create a drizzling consistency.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm danishes and serve.
Notes
Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for easy swirling. Do not overfill with cherry filling to prevent overflow. For a crispier top, broil for the last 1-2 minutes. These can be frozen before or after baking. If using gluten-free rolls, ensure they are soft enough to puff.
