Copycat Texas Roadhouse Seasoned Rice

  • Author: jonathan_evans
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A fluffy, buttery, and savory side dish that mimics the famous Texas Roadhouse rice. This easy recipe comes together in about 20-30 minutes using simple pantry staples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 3 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse 2 cups of long-grain white rice in a fine-mesh strainer under cold water until the water runs clear. Pat dry if desired.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the rinsed rice and stir constantly for 2-3 minutes until the rice smells nutty and looks slightly translucent.
  3. Pour in 3 cups of chicken broth. Add garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low. Cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid and simmer undisturbed for 15-18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for another 5 minutes to allow the rice to finish steaming.
  6. Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter until melted. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.

Notes

Rinsing the rice is crucial to remove excess starch and ensure fluffy, separate grains. Do not stir the rice while it is simmering, as this releases starch and makes it gummy. If using brown rice, adjust cooking time and liquid ratio accordingly. For a vegetarian version, swap chicken broth for vegetable broth and butter for olive oil or vegan butter.
