Copycat Raising Canes Bread: The 3-Step Easy Dip

  • Author: jonathan_evans
  • Total Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Soft, pillowy, and sweet homemade bread rolls that mimic the famous Raising Cane’s side, complete with a tangy, spicy garlic-vinegar dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 to 3.5 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture. Whisk until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Knead for 10-12 minutes until the dough is smooth, elastic, and springs back when poked. Add more flour if too sticky.
  5. Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with cling wrap, and let rise in a warm spot for 45-60 minutes until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll into balls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  7. Cover loosely and let rise again for 20-30 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan. Stir in garlic powder, vinegar, sugar, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper.
  10. As soon as rolls come out of the oven, brush tops generously with the garlic-vinegar butter mixture. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Ensure milk is between 105°F and 115°F to activate yeast without killing it. Do not skip the second rise for light, airy texture. For extra softness, wrap rolls in a clean kitchen towel immediately after brushing with butter to trap steam.
