Description
Recreate the iconic thick, creamy, and icy texture of a Dairy Queen Banana Milkshake at home with just a few simple ingredients. This easy recipe delivers a nostalgic, refreshing treat in under five minutes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium ripe bananas (peeled and frozen)
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream (premium brand recommended)
- 1/2 cup whole milk (cold)
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup ice (optional, for icier texture)
- 1 tbsp banana liqueur or rum (optional, for adults)
Instructions
- If using fresh bananas, peel them, break into chunks, and freeze for at least 2 hours. If using pre-frozen bananas, skip this step.
- Add the frozen banana chunks, vanilla ice cream, whole milk, and vanilla extract to a high-speed blender.
- Secure the lid and blend on high speed for 30-45 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides if necessary, until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Adjust consistency by adding more milk one tablespoon at a time if too thick, or adding ice if a icier texture is desired.
- Pour immediately into a tall glass and serve with a wide straw. Top with whipped cream if desired.
Notes
For the best texture, use frozen bananas and cold ice cream. Do not over-blend as it may melt the ice cream and make the shake watery. Adding a pinch of salt can enhance the banana flavor. For a dairy-free version, substitute with coconut milk ice cream and almond milk.
